A9 Drumochter Dual Carriageway | Overnight Works

13th of May 2024, 7:00pm to 1st of June 2024, 6:00am

BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland’s road operating company, is set to start essential road marking improvements on the A9 this month.

The overnight works will take place over three weeks from Monday 13 May to Saturday 1 June between the hours of 19:00 and 06:00 to ensure all road markings including studs are refreshed. No work will take place on Saturdays or Sundays.

During the works, 18km of the A9 Drumochter dual section on both the northbound and southbound carriageways will be subject to night time lane closures with convoy.

A reduced speed limit along with temporary traffic lights will be setup on the approach to the site and traffic will be guided through the works at 10mph by a convoy vehicle. Junctions throughought the scheme will either be controlled manually by an operative or by a third traffic light signal to control traffic joining the A9 within the traffic management area.

Access through the works site for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the improvement works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “The road marking improvement works on the A9 will help address defects and greatly improve the safety and visual impact for motorists.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience while we complete the projects. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”
